Name:Zeal (AKARobert Jarvis)
Zeal is 26 year-old audio-visual artist and developer Robert Jarvis. He jumps around on stage, pressing flashing buttons and singing electronic indie pop songs about robots while bathed in pixelated, rainbow, video feedback.
A multi-instrumentalist and gadgeteer, Robert holds a Bachelor of Jazz Performance which he both leverages and disregards to produce pop-ridden, experimental music full of glockenspiels, guitars and game consoles. In 2010 he self-released his debut album “With the Moon Alongside Racing Us Home” which was quickly picked up as FBi’s album of the week. Several tracks on the album were sampled and sequenced on a Playstation2.
Robert extends his experimental approach to video, having produced hand-animated video clips for Faux Pas, Agnes Kain, Tiger Choir and Cuba is Japan. His work has been screened as part of The Portable Film Festival and SoundKilda among other festivals.
Since 2010 Robert has been developing and releasing open source software starting with AXIS, a Guitar Hero to MIDI performance application and continuing with a suite of Video performance and effects plugins for Ableton Live called VIZZable in early 2011.
His music, video and software interests have since merged into live audio-visual performances: a frenzy of DIY electronics, quirky pop music and flickering, colourful video. Zeal is preparing to tour Australia throughout 2011 while also producing a new, recorded audio-visual work entitled “All Impossible”.
